Yay we made it to Christmas 2010! Some also very exciting news: we have moved into a new home! It is so beautiful and large:) We moved across the street from Noahs grandparents to help "keep an eye" on them. It has been great so far. Ok so without posting too much stuff I am going to try and update our family blog before I get so far behind I have to delete it! Haha. So we last left off at baby:

Next we had Cohen's 3rd Bday! He had a fan theme of course. He is getting so big:(

We also put Cohen into Preschool in Aug but had to pull him out because he just wasn't ready to be away from us yet. Maybe next fall? We got a great school pic from it though:

Next Holiday was Halloween. Can you guess what Cohen was?

For Thanksgiving we had a Hall Family Reunion but didn't document well with pictures:(

Then Christmas: The famous cookie party. Santa showed up and boy was Cohen excited...well, kinda.

Big news

We have big news! In case you can't make out this little bean, it's a baby:) Last Wednesday (8/11) the little bean measured at 8 weeks. I'm due March 23, 2011. We cannot wait for Cohen to have a little playmate. We would love another boy for Cohen, but Cohen keeps saying he wants a baby girl. We obviously would be happy with either. So far so good. The baby is healthy and mommy is sick which is a good sign;) More posts to come.

Just wanted to share with you Cohen's newfound talent. He has mastered the art of drawing faces. He drew this one day and was able to name who each person was. So I labeled them. We were laughing so hard when he drew mom laying down with her eyes closed (the one with the eyes that are scribbled out). I seriously don't know where he got that since I am the first one up and usually at work for naps. Oh how I do love to sleep though...

Camp Verde

Camp Verde is a place that my husband grew up with. His grandpa Jack has a house there by the river. There are so many memories there for my husband and his brother. They tell their stories of hiking by the river, doing yard work on the riding lawn mower and the famous pizza joint in town: crusties. It was quite a treat to finally bring Cohen up there. He is finally old enough to enjoy the simple pleasures of the outdoors. Him and his cousin Addison has a great time riding on their little john deer in the rain and hiking down to the river, coming back covered in mud and soaking wet. At the end of the day Cohen said "I like this house". It put a smile on my face to know that he is starting his own memories of Camp Verde:)

Swimming lessons

Cohen is 2 1/2 this summer and we decided to put him back in swim lessons, since we loved them so much last year. Anthony was our top pick again this year. He is so good with Cohen. Unfortunately this year Cohen had forgotten everything and cried the whole first lesson (and second, and third...) so we only snapped a few pictures. He is getting much better now and we have decided to keep him in for another round with Anthony in private lessons. We will post more pictures soon but this is what we have so far.

Family Vacation

For one whole week our little family went to California for much needed R&R. First we headed over to Disneyland but Cohen was not really into that plus it was hot and we got so sore from all the walking and standing. We stayed at the Double Tree hotel which was really nice for the price. Then we headed on over to the La Jolla Shores hotel and stayed the rest of our vacation in our BEACH FRONT ROOM. It was totally amazing and we didn't want to leave. While in La Jolla we had our Auntie Ann and Miss Tatum visit. We also headed over to Sea World for about half a day-more than enough. Basically we just relaxed on the beach the rest of the time. We did not want to leave but I'm sure we will be back this year.

Mother's Day 2010

I'm a little behind on these posts but I have to say I had such a wonderful Mother's Day. On the Saturday before Mother's Day we had brunch with Grandma Carol, Papa Jack and Grandma Marilynn at Aunt Chiladas. It was delicious. Unfortunately we have no pictures. Sunday we took my mother out to breakfast at the Good Egg. We waited FOREVER but the kids were so good! Here is a cute picture of my mother:

This year for Cohen's cousins bday party we went ice skating. At first I wasn't sure Cohen would even want to go out onto the ice. But we put skates on him anyways. As soon as he got out there, he didn't want to come out! He LOVED it. I got tired of holding him up so I had him hold onto a chair but before I realized that it was probably a bad idea for a 2 and 1/2 yr old to try to hang onto a chair while ice skating, he fell right on his face and bit his lip. He was bleeding all over but didn't want to stop skating. We have one tough ice skater!

Noah and I just couldn't bear to take Cohen to get his haircut and risk the chance that they would buzz it all off. So we did it ourselves and did a pretty good job! Noah did the sides and I did the back. You have to be quick with a two year old!

Without going into too much detail, I never knew my grandfather on my mother's side. She never knew him either. I guess one day he just up and left and was never heard from again. Until now. My aunt Paula had been looking for him for years and fortunately, her stepmother (my grandfather's second wife) was looking for them too. So this opened up a whole floodgate of new family and of course many stories and unanswered questions. Amidst all of the emails back and forth, a few pics of my Grandpa Yocius and Great Grandpa Yocius (Jocius) were sent and I wanted to share them.

Well since we live in AZ we are officially pretending it is summer. It was such a nice Sunday afternoon we couldn't resist the pool. We were invited over to Adam and Cortney's home for Grandma Becky's birthday lunch. We had some yummy Chipotle for lunch, played on the trampoline and then swam! Zoo or Bust

I had to work Saturday. Noah was watching Cohen and grandma and grandpa Field came over and wanted to go to the zoo. So they all went to the Wildlife World Zoo. Cohen hasn't been feeling very good lately as far as being "regular" with his toileting habits. As soon as they got there Cohen wanted daddy to hold him because his tummy hurt. I got off work the same time they got in to the park so I was headed over there (way over in the west valley and I was in Scottsdale). About half way there Noah called worried about Cohen. I could hear him crying in the background. It's a cry I've heard before. The NO POOP cry. I told him to give him some time and he would poop and that I would be there soon. A couple minutes later I got another call from Noah saying they were leaving. They spent $80 for 30 min and I spent 45 min driving. When he got home the poop came and he was fine. Here are two photos from the very short trip.

A couple days ago when Noah and I were working late printing tshirts, we received a call from Carol who was watching Cohen. She was hysterical and had called to tell us that Cohen had stuck his head in her stair railing and was now stuck. She had already called the fire department. Cohen cried, and so did grandma Carol. Right before the fire department arrived, grandma and grandpa Kenyon pulled up, and of course Papa Jack thought he could get Cohen right out. Thank goodness the fire department showed up shortly after and pried the bars apart while tilting Cohen just right so as to slide him gently out. Cohen ran right to Papa Jack. The very nice firemen took Cohen outside to see the fire truck and even let him wear a fire helmet. Cohen survived and mom and dad showed up a little bit later to meet everyone for dinner at Galaghers. Of course their are no pictures or video of the incident but the memory will always live on....

Sick

Our little Coco bug has NEVER in his 2 years and 5 months been sick. No sneezes or runny nose. No nausea or vomiting. Until now. One night while Noah and I were up late I heard a bit of a "bark" coming from Cohen's room. Noah had his earphones in like he always does when he is working on his computer. So I snuck into his room to check it out. I leaned in for a closer listen and then it happened again. "Bark, bark" "Oh crap" I thought. I was sure it was the croup. I hurried out of the room (Cohen still sleeping at this point) and told Noah who didn't believe me and went to listen for himself. I also snuck in to take his temp with my new temporal thermometer. It was 101. So I made a midnight run down to the drugstore to get a humidifier and a smorgasbord of meds. I came home and set everything up just in time for Cohen to wake up and realize he felt like you know what. I held him in my arms while he screamed. He was so hot and sweaty from his fever and so congested he couldn't breathe. I felt completely and totally powerless so I did the only thing I could do. Cry. We got some tylenol in him and turned on the humidifier to high, sat with him in our arms, and had a pretty restless nights sleeping sitting up. The next day Noah took him to the doctor who confirmed it was probably a flu bug. But we didn't expect strep. So the Dr sent Noah on his way with some antibiotics and a little watery eyed, runny nosed child. Daddy held him all day long while mommy was worried sick at work. I was able to snap a few iPhone shots of the 3-5 days he was sick.

3 years

Three years ago I was married to my soul mate. Ever since then life has never been the same. There is always a new adventure in our lives to keep us on our toes and make sure life is never boring. First it came Cohen, then literally right after came nursing school. The Phlop Shop is always staying busy when life gets busy but I'm not complaining, and the great news of me getting my first RN job with a schedule that would make anyone exhausted. We have been through our fair share of medical issues, first with my diagnosis of MS and all the lovely stuff that goes with that, then Coco getting his hernia surgery, and now believe it or not Noah is having some issues with "numb arms" (diagnosis to be continued...) We somehow make it work. I don't know what I would do without my little family! We hope to expand sometime soon however life is interesting enough for now. Noah used his skills to make us a 3 year anniversary video. Check it out:

Crash on Coolidge

There is always something interesting going on on Coolidge Street.

So a car crashed into the house two houses down from us. Noah and Cohen were home at the time. It turns out that a man shot his mother (who was driving) and then hit our neighbors home and ran. Our neighbor had just left to get something to eat, but I guess the crash was right into where his bedroom used to be. The girl who was shot was taken to the hospital and lived. Nobody knew she was shot until she arrived at the hospital and had a seizure. The man was caught a day later. There was a whole mobile police station set up right outside our home almost the entire day/night of the crash. Then they left and multiple news stations showed up the next day. Coolidge has since quieted down, and the home is boarded up. Things are always interesting on Coolidge street.

Cohen's Surgery:(

So we finally decided to go ahead with Cohen's hernia surgery. We prepped him the night before and the day of as to what was going to happen. He did so good. He loved his purple "pj's" that they gave him to wear and he did really well with everyone that came to "visit" for his pre-op checks. When it came time to separate, he did so good. Didn't cry at all. We were concerned about how he would do with the whole putting him to sleep thing, but the nurse came out and told us he put the mask on like a champ and they rocked to sleep singing songs, tear free. It melted my heart, my brave little boy. After surgery he did freak out a bit but soon after he was fast asleep at home recovering. When he woke up for good, grandma Carol was there feeding him her famous garlic bread (he didn't want spaghetti) and he got to eat all the ice cream and candy he wanted. What a brave little boy! He acted like nothing every happened!

My First Day of Work

I finally got a job. It is in home health. I was a little sceptical at first. I didn't know much about how home health worked, what kind of hours I'd be working, and what kind of benefits/pay I would be getting. Well, so far I love it. You don't have to work 12 grueling hours in a hospital where you never see the light of day. So far it's not too stressful and I'm loving my patients. I'm also getting all kinds of RN experience PLUS some case management experience which is a plus. I run into all kinds of different things with my patients so I get that experience also. The schedule is a little confusing at times, and I'm having to work around watching Cohen and being sensitive to my hubby's tshirt business. So we need to work on it a bit but I'm loving it so far and just feel grateful to have a job in this economy:) So this is a pic on my first day of orientation. (I had to wear business attire since it was just office stuff but I wear scrubs in the field). I know I'm a dork for taking a pic of my self but I was just so excited:)

So it was my bday, Feb 5th, 2010 I turned 29. This is the last year I will be in the 20's. I want to say it's a big deal, but I love the fact that life just keeps getting better and I honestly can't wait for each year to go by just to see what wonderful things it will bring. I don't mind getting older...most of the time;) So here are a few pics of my bday presents. My wonderful hubby did a good job.

It's been a while since I have seen my cousin Heather. We used to play as kids all the time. It was always me, Heather, and my older sis Cami. We were inseparable. We grew up and grew apart. Life happened. So it was so nice to get together with our new little families and catch up.

The NCLEX-RN nightmare

I took my state boards last Wednesday. Let me walk you through the past few weeks before I go into detail:

To prep for this I took a 3 day class, bought 3 study books, and 2 iPhone apps and studied countless hours for over a month. 100-200+ NCLEX questions a day easy. I felt pretty ready, but still nervous. The way NCLEX works is you get anywhere from 75-265 questions. If you miss a question, you get an easier one, if you get one right you get a harder one. When I went into it, I knew I didn't want to just get 75 (the minimum). Well I showed up at 9AM and the thing shut off at 75. I was done by 10AM. WHAT!? Seriously, I did not know one of those questions! When I got to about 55 I was like "please god don't shut off at 75" because I knew that I was doing THAT crappy that it would just be like "okay Amanda, you pretty much suck at this so I'm shutting off". I went home, ran 7 miles and cried. Everyone was like "don't worry you passed" but I was worried.

24 hours passed and I was supposed to be looking on the AZ BN website to see if I passed but I was looking at the Pearson Vue website where I took the test. Apparently the results first show up on the AZBN web. I got a call from my hubby saying "congratulations". Huh? I guess my mother in laws friend (her daughter took the NCLEX a few weeks ago and looked me up) had called to tell them I passed. I asked how they found out, looked it up myself, and couldn't believe my eyes. I had to keep looking at it. I guess I didn't know any of them because I kept getting them right and they had to give me harder and harder questions. It shut off at 75 because it didn't need to keep giving me questions to show that I was a competent nurse. I should never have doubted myself.

So now I'm an RN!

Cohen's Dr. Visit

This may seem inappropriate to talk about, but that is why I made the blog private;) Recently we found out Cohen has a "hernia". The reason it is in quotes is because it's not a full on hernia. It's something called a hydroseal in the inguinal area. Basically people he has a swollen testicle. Well it didn't seem to bother him a bit but mom and dad were concerned so we ended up taking him to the specialist who confirmed what it was. She told us that it may resolve itself and to watch it. I can tell you right now, it's not resolving...so surgery might be soon.

Anyway before we went I prepped Cohen by saying "we are going to see a girl doctor today. She is very nice. She will be looking in your diaper and touching your pee pee." Honestly that is the best way I knew how to put it. So all morning he was saying "want to go to the doctor, look in diaper and touch your pee pee." Ugh. I dunno, I'm new at this. So he went and didn't cry at all. He was a perfect patient. We ate at Paradise bakery afterwards and ate cookies for a treat!

When I was in Jr. High, we adding a new member to our family. As a puppy Sammy was so cute and puffy. He ended up being one of the only dogs we kept around. He was so smart and acted just like a human. After time passed a lot of of moved out of the house. For some reason Sammy decided he was going to go with my sister Cami. They grew a bond and were inseparable. This past week I got a call with news that Sammy had cancer. The cancer had spread throughout his body and there was nothing we could do. I paid a visit to my sister Cami's house to say my last goodbye. He was loved by everyone. After 11 years Sammy was laid to rest on Monday, January18th, 2010.

We had so much fun this holiday season. Cohen is at such a fun age. He opened all his presents in one day! Haha. It took him til 8PM but we did it. We were so blessed this year. We had money to spoil our little man and a little extra for mom and dad. We are so grateful to have family to spend Christmas with, it wouldn't be the same without them!

Santa Clause!?

Tonight we finally went to visit Santa Clause! We were at the mall and I asked Cohen if he wanted to go see Santa. He was very willing. This year he has finally been old enough to understand all of the stories about good boys and girls, presents, reindeer, fireplaces, and such so he was well aware of Santa. We stood in line and Cohen didn't want to wait. He kept pulling on mom and dad's arm wanting to cut in line. Finally it was our turn and we started walking toward him, and then about 2 feet away Cohen started to back up. Noah and I had a plan that if he cried we would throw him on Santa's lap and get a picture anyway. So I scooped him up and put him on good ol Santa's lap. I thought he would burst into tears but instead he went silent. He just looked at us like "I can't believe you turned on me". We snapped a few pics and then we were on our way. He was fine afterwards but hasn't spoken another word about Santa tonight...

In the last few months, Cohen has really become interested in electronics. Laptops, digital cameras, video cameras, ipods and iphones. Mom and dad rely pretty heavily on these items for school, work, appointments, special days, and just to manage the ups and downs of everyday life. Cohen has expressed a need to organize and document his life also. So we allowed him to take our iphones and explore (scary). Soon Cohen was able to pretty much navigate the entire phone, knowing what each icon does and which were his favorites, in a matter of weeks. His favorite is the picture feature. We upload all of his "photography" because it is so good. I can't believe what a little artist he is. He really did take all of these pictures by himself! What do you think?

Ghost Hunting

So, Adam (noah's bro) won a "Ghost Hunt" in a raffle at one of his son's school fundraisers. Since he won two tickets he decided to take Noah with him. At first when Noah told me how he was going to Wickenburg in the middle of the night to hunt ghosts I thought he was kidding. Then when I realized he was serious I got a little scared (you would know why I was afraid if you knew my history of run in's with "ghosts"). So I made sure he was all packed up with snacks and dressed warmly in his thermals with flashlight in hand (oh yea, he forgot that...). Without going into too much detail, they went, freezing cold and sat in dark creepy rooms all night....with no ghosts. At least we got some good pics and footage of Noah and Adam making fun of the ghost hunters (who really thought they were like the ghost hunters on TV).

Nursing Graduation

Well I did it. WE did it. Nursing school involves the whole family. After two (plus) years of hard work I finally have my RN! I am so excited! I can't imagine anything I'd rather do:) Thank you EVERYONE that has supported me through this very long and exhausting process. This wasn't easy on any of us. I remember the day I was accepted to nursing school. I received an email on my phone at the hospital the day after I gave birth to my little Cohen. I was so happy I cried (or maybe it was the hormones). So off to school I went, Cohen just 3 months of age, and a hubby that looked at me as I skipped out the door with a look of "what the hell am I supposed to do now" on his lovely face. Little did we know that was just the beginning.

On to semester two, I started to go blind and then found out I had MS. It was such a shock and so devastating to the whole family. We somehow survived- and with me getting an A's and B's (remember 75% is failing).

Semester three was pretty uneventful, however our little Tshirt business slowed WAYYY down and we had some medical bills and school to pay for. But we made it through.

Semester four-the last one. Hardest by far. Had a relapse of my MS, and more medical tests. I couldn't concentrate this time. Business still slow, more medical bills, more medicine that made me sick, more devastation for all but...

WE SURVIVED!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH TO MY WONDERFUL HUSBAND NOAH AND COHEN AND CAROL FOR ALL THE FREE BABYSITTING, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, AND PHLOP SHOP SERVICE. TO MY FAMILY FOR ALL THE PHONE CALLS AND SUPPORT THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES. SPECIAL THANKS TO GRANDMA AND GRANDPA KENYON FOR MAKING THIS ALL POSSIBLE. WITHOUT YOU I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL. THANK YOU FRIENDS (you know who you are) WHO WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR ME AND MAKING SURE I WAS OK. Phoenix Children's' Museum

Havent posted in quite a while so I will update you with all that we have done. Noah and Cohen took a trip to the Phx Childrens Museum with some cousins. They had a blast. Cohen loved all the gadgets and being toted around by Clementine! How cute:)

Color of the day = GREEN

We recently asked a good friend how he taught his kid colors. Cohen has been hit and miss with our color practices. We would lay all the colors out and practice each one: "Cohen, which color is red..." and sometimes he would be right, sometimes not. Our friend said his little one has the "color of the day" at his daycare where one whole day is devoted to just ONE color. Talk about much less confusion. Here we were shoving all these colors in front of Cohen expecting him to sort them all out. So today was our first Color of the Day. Cohen chose green out of all the colors and it looked like a leprechaun threw up but it was fun:)

Even though the heat here in AZ can make you feel sluggish, we have somehow found stuff to do (we have a 2yr old, imagine that). We always stay busy and even venture outside! So here are the fun (well fun to a 2 yr old) stuff we have done this past week:

Big boys make big messes. He got wet and played in the sand. It was in his diaper and in all the "cracks".

Independence Day Celebrations

The 4th of July is always fun for us. We are so lucky to have Adam and Courtney's BBQ each year and of course the famous fireworks at their community clubhouse. It's never too crowded and it's just a walk away from their home. This is the first time Cohen is actually old enough to understand fireworks so we were kinda nervous how he would react. Since it was past his bedtime he reacted only tired. I'd like to think he enjoyed them. I know he enjoyed the two cupcakes he had for dinner that night!

Camp Verde is where Noah's grandparents have a vacation home. Noah used to spend many days as a child up at Camp Verde and has so many memories there. For his birthday Noah wanted to take us up there (our first trip) to make some of our own family memories. Great grandma and grandpa were there along with Aunt Cortney and Uncle Adam and Addison and Grandma Carol. We had so much fun hiking and eating cake!

Swim Lessons

This summer Cohen had his first REAL swim lesson. Just him and the instructor. No mommy in the water. These pics are a mixture of his first and second lesson because he cried his whole first lesson. The second one was MUCH better. I think he just needed to get used to Anthony his instructor. Now he says Anthony all day long!

Yesterday we went to the wildlife world zoo with Grandma Carol. It was so much fun! It wasn't too hot and there was a breeze. Cohen was really into all the animals and little critters. He pet all kinds of animals, rode the Carousel twice, took a train ride, and stood by a white alligator! And that wasn't even half of it. Here are some pics of the day:

Textbooks or home wreckers?

Nobody is prepared for the piles of textbooks they give you when you start Nursing School. You buy all two years of books up front. We have a tiny house and I decided to store them in our bedroom closet. Well...today it broke. Yes, our whole closet broke. We had to fix it on our anniversary (TODAY). So we pulled EVERYTHING out of the closet and fixed it before we went out on a date. I knew the textbooks were evil, I just didn't know they were closet wreckers too. Its funny because we used (some) of the books to hold up the drawers while we fixed it. I guess they came in use after all.

I have MS

I couldn't think of a better way to start this blog posting than to just come out and say it. I have Multiple Sclerosis. I'm not posting on the fact that I have this disease, but what I am doing about it. Shortly after I was diagnosed, I was put on this medication that is supposed to help decrease the symptoms and slow the progress over time. You would think I have cancer by the way it makes me feel. The way the drug works is to suppress your immune system so the disease will stop attacking your own body. What a great thing to do. After a couple of weeks of treatment, I knew I was done with it, however, too afraid to stop with the promise of "slowing the disease process" looming over my head. I was searching the net one day about different treatments and such and came across this book: "The MS Recovery Diet". My first though was, "recover?" and them my second though was "recover!". You don't just recover from MS. Studies show that it is a chronic progressive disease. So I was immediately intrigued. I went right out and bought the book. The first words I read were on the back cover: "The MS Recovery Diet targets five common food triggers that can set off the symptoms of MS: dairy, grains containing glutens, leguems, eggs, yeas." I almost threw the book across the room. Then I realized that I should do that with my shots instead. I was defeated. I couldn't help having MS, but I COULD help what I put in my mouth. So I began reading. I have been on this diet for about a week (and veggitarian now for about a month), and I feel pretty good. I decided to post this to give myself more motivation to stick to this. It is a life long change for my health.

There are certain things that I miss; pancakes in the morning, a juicy hamburger, cake with lots of frosting, and all of my soy products. Other things I can live without like deep fried foods, and most other meats. I have restricted myself to fish, veggies, fruit, nuts, rice, and corn. When you really get inventive, there is a lot you can do with that. Tonight I had acorn squash (cut in half) baked with cut up apples, walnuts, and cinnamon-it was quite tasty. I found out they make rice protein powder, which I pretty much live off of. I have fish every other day, and a mixture of nuts every day. Oils are very important for the repairing of the myelin sheath (you will know what I'm talking about once you look up the disease process). Kick out all of the saturated fats (bad fats) and add more of the unsaturated fats to your diet. I cook with olive, veggetable, and sunflower seed oils. I could babble on but I won't bore you.

My whole point in posting this is for me to feel brave enough to take the plunge. Let my medication go and rely on natural foods. The way it was meant to be. It is scary, but now that I have read the book it makes total sense. There are so many diseases out there, especially autoimmune, that we can change the course of with just our diets. We need to listen to our bodies, and our hearts, and just trust. I pray a lot. A lot more than I used to. Not to get better, or to give me strength, but for thanks. I thank god every day for the life I have and for my health. The realization that I have the power to change this is more than I could have ever asked for.

Tuckered Out

Okay, this doesn't happen often. Our little one is not fond of naps or bedtime. He fights them tooth and nail. Today a repair man came and I had to go outside with him. I left Cohen in his room with his keyboard playing "If Your Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands". He loves that song. It was pretty loud too. After a few minutes, the repair man left and I was wondering why Cohen was being so good! He is usually into something else by now and making a lot more noise. So I go peek in on him and there he was sitting in his rocking chair, music still blaring, ASLEEP! Wow. That was easy...

California Trip

Our little family took a week long trip to California last week. We originally were going to go for just a weekend for Tatum's 1st birthday, but we decided to go up early and make it a vacation. Thanks to Noah's uncle Johnny, we were able to stay in his condo on the cliffs of Encinitas for half of the week. It was absolutely breathtaking. I could live there! We went for a walk every day. Even Cohen liked it. He was such a good boy the whole time we were there. Then we made the trip up to Temecula, where the party was. We stayed at the Embassy Suites. It was really nice. Each room has it's own living room/kitchenett and a separate bedroom. It's like a little house. We met the rest of the family at the hotel. We had so much fun! We had little parties in the rooms and ate so much junk food! They had a free breakfast every morning with everything you could imagine. Waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, fruit, different pastries, toast, bagels, and even omletts made to order. It was heaven. The trip got kinda scary the night we had a pizza party in Grandma Carols room. Cohen was walking around stealing food from people as usual and he must have grabbed a whole pepperoni off someone's plate. He came back and sat on Grandma Carols lap and tried to swallow. The pepperoni was just too big and he started choking. Lucky for me they make you take child/adult life rescue and CPR when you are in nursing school. I grabbed that kid so fast and flung him upsidown on my lap and started my "back thrust" maneuver. Well it only took two times and the pepperoni came flying out. Cohen wasn't really phased by the whole thing and went on playing and eating. The rest of us were pretty freaked out. I think my heart stopped beating all together when it happened. Anyway, to get back on track, Tatums 1st birthday party was a blast! Even Britty dressed up like Minni Mouse (it was a minni mouse party). The party was so cute. Cohen has a lot of fun stealing presents and cake. All in all we had so much fun and we didn't want to leave. Oh well...back to reality.

I have to tell you the story behind this tree. We hadn't gotten a tree yet and it was only a couple weeks until Christmas. My parents brought over a small tree that they were getting rid of in order to buy a bigger one. The small tree was perfect for our tiny house and just the right size for Cohen. Well, it was decorated all in gold and silver. Although very pretty, it wasn't exactly our taste (sorry mom!). I didn't care to take all the decorations off and get new ones. It bothered Noah enough to strip the tree down to just the lights. I was like "what the heck are you gonna decorate it with". I really didn't want to spend the time or money getting decorations. So he and Cohen got to work. Cohen and daddy decorated the tree from base to tip with cohens toys. Mostly balls, since they are Cohen's favorite. And of course, the tree topper is Pablo the Penguin, Cohen's favorite. It turned out really cute, and it's Cohen's first tree so it's perfect!

I love the holidays. It's a perfect time to reflect on all of the things I am so blessed with in my life. This Thanksgiving I am thankful for my family. Noah is the perfect dad. He is a full time dad and a full time provider for this family. He goes to work every day and totes little Cohen along with him while I go to nursing school. He is the best father and husband. Cohen is such a little angel. His has such a sweet spirit and I know he was sent here just for me. I am so very blessed to have these two people in my life and thankful for every moment I live it.

Okay. So today was Cohen's year old checkup. We all know that at a year they get their chicken pox, MMR, and a HepA. Plus the doctor recommended him getting the flu shot. So we said okay. At a year they give them their shots in the arm instead of the thigh. Which hurts more. Plus the MMR burns and the flu shot is in the muscle, which I know aches. So the poor thing had two shots in each arm. The first one went okay, and then he realized the nurse was coming back for more and he lost it. It was soooo sad and I had him on my lap restrained so he wouldn't hurt himself more. So afterwards we took Cohen out for his very first ice cream cone. He LOVED it.

As you can see Cohen survived and he is back to his usual lovable self.

Today is the day we finally have railing along our porch. Ever since Cohen has been more mobile, and with his bday party just around the corner, we have been quite concerned about the 2 foot drop off our back porch. So today, the railing was powder coated and bolted up. Now no kids will get hurt and we will stay out of court! Yay.

Bunny Obsession

Cohen found his easter bunny today. You know, one of those stuffed animals that sings and dances and moves all around. He didn't want to stop playing with it even though he was so tired. So I'm in the kitchen on the computer and he is in the living room playing this thing over and over and over again. Then all of a sudden it stops...

His little chubby finger was still on the "trigger". What a sweetheart. He gets so tired lately now that he has been walking!

Birthday Preparations

Turning one year old is such an exciting and special time in a child's life, but I'm pretty sure Noah and I are MUCH more excited than Cohen is. I don't think he even knows what is coming. I found these cupcakes online and wanted to copy them so bad. They are inspired by the BACKYARDIGANS, Cohen's favorite show. I was afraid to attempt them because some of them are made with fondant, which I've heard is hard to work with. His birthday isn't for another 5 weeks, but I had to do a run through.

And here is mine. Not too shabby. It was A LOT of work but totally worth it!

I felt like a kid again this weekend with all the paint, colored pencils, baking, and getting really really messy. It was so fun. And what made it even better was that it is for Cohen's bday. We also have all the decorations ordered, balloons and all. The only thing left is the bouncy rental, some gifts, and making the food. Phew! I can't wait. Cohen probably won't know what is going on, but I'm still excited.

Our little one has started walking. Well...he takes 6-7 steps at a time. That's pretty much walking. He still prefers crawling, but he is growing up so fast! 10 months old!

He fell asleep on his pony today and Noah got video of it! We will upload soon...

We made a trip to Toy's R Us today to get Cohen some more toys. He is getting bored with his usual toys so we figured we would get something really interesting. We looked and looked and finally found the PERFECT thing!

Brand New Shoes

I found the perfect sandals on our California trip for Cohen but they were $40. They were perfect for his chubby little feet. The velcro opened all the way so you could just set his foot inside and strap them on. Not too hot either. I didn't buy them because I though I might be able to get them cheaper here in AZ. They were crocs and I thought no way could tiny little sandals cost that much. So we came back here and went to a croc stand at the mall and found the same pair in a better color...but they were $40 too. We got them anyways because our little guy is so close to walking and they are super easy to take on and off.

Oh there is more to this story! I have been with Cohen every day, all day since summer started and I am out of school. I miss nothing, I'm always taking pictures of the smallest milestones. So yesterday (Friday, August 15, 2008) I had to run to the store at 7PM to get some groceries. I was gone about 45 min. I noticed that Noah had tried to call a bunch of times. I was freakin out. I finally got a hold of him and he sounded panicked: "Cohen took 2 steps while you were gone" he shouted. What!? My little baby, whom I was hoping and praying for the day I would get him to take his first few precious steps, walked without me there! I missed it! I couldn't believe it. He hasn't done it since. I tried to get him to take some steps when I got home but he wasn't having it. Guess he is saving his energy:(

La Jolla Vacation

We finally got out of the hot Arizona weather and went for our family vacation to the beach at La Jolla Shores Hotel. We were right on the beach which was very nice for bathroom breaks and afternoon naps. We had a blast. Here are some photos of our vacay:
